Port Thundertail
The village of Port Thundertail was named after the family of Titans that ruled the island before the Empire of Xanadu took it over. Port Thundertail lies on the outskirts of the Empire, and the village has since become a hide out for those seeking to avoid the law. All of the residents of Port Thundertail are Kobolds(60%), Minotaurs(10%), and Titans(30%).
The currency is called "silks." (Silks are like paper money, printed on small pieces of silk by the government of Xanadu.) 1 Silk pays for enough food to feed a Minotaur or Titan for a day, or enough to feed a Kobold for a week. If characters don't pay for food, they start the combat rounds with one extra point of damage from hunger. Food does not require a "day of shopping."
Most of the action takes place in the center of town, which has a 6x6 meter Lei Tai with plenty of space for spectators. (A Lei Tai is an elevated platform that serves as a stage and boxing ring.) The town center also has the entrances to many important places in Port Thundertail:
- The Guard Hall
- This is were guards sleep and train in the art of Tao Rho. Tao Rho focuses on stamina, natural weapons, and two hand weapons training.
- The "One Leg Lance" martial arts school
- This is the Vigilantes' hideout. One Leg Lance focuses on acrobatics, thrown weapons, and one hand weapons training.
- The Market
- The Market is a source of food.
- The Blacksmith
- The Blacksmith has a variety of weapons and armor for sale. Characters can also make their own customized equipment at the Blacksmith for a small fee (2 Silks.)
- The Clinic
- The Clinic is a place to get medical attention.
Plot and Action
A gang of vigilante outlaws has infested the village of Port Thundertail. The PCs are village locals who realize that the village is not big enough for the vigilantes and the town guard, who's fighting regularly interfere with village commerce. The PCs try to bring peace to the village by keeping any fighting in the town square for 10 consecutive days.
The game moves in Days. Each day, each character can do one thing:
- heal
- train (characters may not train if they are wounded or hungry.)
- buy something
- loiter in the town square (see Guard and Vigilante occupations below)
The Occupations
PCs can be Guards (G), Vigilantes (V) or Shopkeepers(S).
Guards
Every time the Guards keep all of the Vigilantes out of the town square, the guards receive their stipend. This means that Guards loiter in the square unopposed by the Vigilantes, or force the Vigilantes out of the Square through combat. Only those Guards that participate in keeping out the Vigilantes get the stipend.
- Captain of the Guard (G):
- Advantages: 10 Silks stipend, can hire guards, set guarding locations, participates in the village council
Prerequisites: Must be a senior guard, no criminal history, twelve total arrests or kills, liked by villagers - Senior Guard(G):
- Advantages: 5 Silks stipend, full access to village armory, dictates work schedule
Prerequisites: Must be a guard trainee, no criminal history, five public arrests or kills - Guard Trainee(G):
- Advantages: High-Quality Spear, 5 Silks Stipend
Prerequisites: No criminal history, must guard town at inconvenient times
Shopkeepers
Every time there is no fighting in the town Square, the Shopkeepers receive their stipend. This does not count one-on-one unarmed matches on the Lei Tai. Shop Keepers can encourage Lei Tai matches to keep the peace, by holding all-day tournaments with a single prize for the winner. This also can keep opposing sides too busy healing to be fighting.

- Advantages: 20 Silks stipend, participates in village council
Prerequisites: Must be Journeyman for several years - Journeyman(S):
- Advantages: 10 Silks stipend
Prerequisites: Must be Apprentice for a full year - Apprentice(S):
- Advantages: 5 Silks stipend
Prerequisites: Must maintain shop at inconvenient times
Vigilantes
Every day the Vigilantes keep all of the guards out of the town square, the vigilante characters receive their allotted stipend. This means that Vigilantes loiter in the square unopposed by the Gaurds, or force the Gaurds out of the Square through combat. Only those Vigilantes that participate in keeping out the Guards get the stipend.
- Crime Lord(V):
- Advantages: 20 Silks stipend, sell stolen goods for 1/2 value on black market
Prerequisites: Must be henchman for several years without being taken or killed by Guards - Henchman(V):
- Advantages: 20 Silks Stipend
Prerequisites: Must be a Vigilante, Must defeat guards five times. - Vigilante(V):
- Advantages: 10 Silks Stipend
Prerequisites: Must have criminal record, and defend Henchman or Crimelords if approached by guards (if character is present.)
(Characters can get "criminal records" by fighting with any guards in town square.)
