Bestiary: Other Animals
In the Squawk universe, the dominant animals are Archosaurs - a group of animals that includes birds, dinosaurs and crocodilians. In the real world, Archosaurs may be the most successful type of large animal - from the first amazing dinosaurs and pterosaurs to modern crocodiles and birds (often at the top of the food chain even during the so-called "Age of Mammals!")
Other kinds of animal life play less visible roles - or may not even exist in the worlds of Squawk. So when you are customizing or inventing your own Squawk Adventures, it's good to follow a few basic rules:
No Mammals - archosaurs fill most of the roles that mammals do in our world. Small dinosaurs are the big-eyed cute-and-cuddly creatures of the Squawk universe. We've even invented fantasy archosaurs that fill roles only performed by mammals on our world (like the Intelligent Species.) Mammals - living or extinct - should not be part of a Squawk game.
No Humans - that's right, no graven images. There are no humanoids or anything that resembles a human face in Squawk. Even the monsters in many Tolkien-inspired fantasy settings and the conveniently human-like "aliens" in most science fiction or "space opera" are much too human-like to exist in Squawk.
Don't dilute the Squawk Setting - do not bend the rules by introducing mammals or humans in exotic places or as visitors from other universes. If an adventure, setting, game, work of art, or any other work does not follow these rules, it is not in the Squawk genre, and may not include any of our fictional Squawk creatures. (such as the Intelligent Species.)
If you don't want to stick to these rules, feel free to use the Mano a Mano Role Playing System to make your own RPG.
