Bestiary: Guivres

Many types of reptiles, such as lizards and snakes are not found on Squawk worlds. In the absence of snakes and legless lizards, a new group of serpentine archosaur has appeared to occupy similar niches. (A fictional group, only found on Squawk worlds.) These "Guivres" have long snake-like bodies but bullet-shapped heads like an alligator, and instead of being covered with overlapping scales, they are covered with pebbly scutes, sometimes decorated with rows of larger scutes for armor or display.

All guivres are predators and employ several killing strategies. Some wrestle their pray down and suffocate them in water, mud or sand. Others have mastered the technique of squeezing their pray to crush or suffocate them. Some simply swallow prey whole or slice a nasty wound with specialized cutting teeth and wait for the prey to weaken before finishing them off, and a few have developed types of venom to speed up this process.

Most guivres are medium sized swimmers, climbers, or crawlers which prey on animals which make their homes in burrows. A few species are diggers themselves such as the gigantic Sand Wyrm which hides itself under sand or other loose ground cover to ambush prey.
